Tetris Didn't Succeed at The Game Awards — Another Award Type Might Solve This

Each time a significant honors show approaches, there’s always a demand to include of new categories to honor unsung work and fill the spirits of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.

My colleague made the case for a horror game category. It would be amazing. The same goes for board games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist for pushing forward since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification supporting my request is the most urgent and significant. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works is not a science; it remains highly personal, and typically generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that film award organizations don’t do it. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise within the realm of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types actually cover a lot of ground, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Think about these recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles of one title, intense tile-matching in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. What category would fit them among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens outstanding logic titles published annually without proper recognition at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition completely in 2014
  • Another imaginative release was excluded during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked that year
  • Just some brain-teasers barely qualified for niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent modest productions, yet the craft of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most popular titles worldwide and have been for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience competes with well-known building titles claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it additionally competes for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, while interacting with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. You could fill multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these include experiences that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the challenging frontier interactive creation, developing some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay decades.
