Colts Take On Atlanta Falcons in German Capital – Week 10 NFL Action

Guten tag, football fans. Wie gehts? Alles klar I trust on this fine morning kickoff to the tenth week coming straight outta Germany. The Olympiastadion in Berlin to be exact where at 9:30 AM EST and 2:30 PM GMT the powerful Indianapolis Colts (seven wins and two losses) face off against the Atlanta Falcons (3-5). This marks the fifth matchup played on German soil and the initial in the capital city.

Pregame Highlights

As sparkly jackets go that is an absolute belter from Katarina Witt on the opening flip. A slight fluff from the broadcast team there as we hear “which team got the coin flip?” from the presenter with an unfortunately hot mic.

Well, the coin toss went to Indianapolis and have elected to receive. Daniel Jones and company will be taking the field soon. Will the QB bounce back after a rough one in their last game?

Not to be outdone the vocalist performing the US national anthem has some of the largest shoulder pads you are ever likely to see. The fashion picks are impressive today. The game is about to start after a choir performance for the national anthem of Germany. Elegant.

First Quarter Gameplay

Scoreless at 13:30 in the first

Here we go! And we have early drama after the Colts running back catches a screen pass, gains 15 yards on the outside to the right then loses the ball … only for his offensive lineman to recover the fumble with the ball retrieval. Indianapolis quickly moves into Atlanta's half.

Still scoreless at 10:51

And the excitement continues as the Indianapolis attempts a fourth-down conversion. The risk doesn't work out as Josh Downs fails to catch a fastball from Jones. On the play before the turnover on downs the Falcons defender put a huge hit on the Colts' tight end. Atlanta's defense started strong as they try and snap their three-game losing streak. Next up Sauce Garner’s debut!

Touchdown Updates

First score: Colts lead 6-0 at 8:36

Was that a missed touchdown by Kyle Pitts? The Falcons player makes a crucial error, he was wide open but the ball just slips through his grasp. That play rather sums up the first round pick’s career to date.

So far, so disappointing but it only deteriorates for the Falcons as they turn over possession to the Indianapolis on the 23-yard mark. The Falcons quarterback is sacked and fumbles the football.

A nifty 22-yard run from the Colts receiver sets Jonathan Taylor up to roll in for the score on the next snap. Kicker Michael Badgley misses the point after attempt. Mistake.

TOUCHDOWN! Colts 6-7 Falcons 6:07, 1st quarter

The quarterback recovers from the turnover by marching his Falcons down the field for a touchdown. The wide receiver makes some substantial catches to put them in the scoring area then the seas part for Tyler Allgeier to run untouched into the end zone through the middle of the defense for 13 yards. The running back finishes it off for a short scoring run of his own. Advantage Atlanta.

Other Tenth Week Matchups

And for afters, the jumbo package starting at 12pm CST/1pm EST/6pm GMT (with home teams first) is as follows:

  • (5-4) Panthers v New Orleans Saints (1-8)

  • (5-3) Chicago Bears v New York Giants (2-7)

  • (4-4) Vikings v Baltimore Ravens (3-5)

What a feast. I’m planting my flag on Minnesota and Baltimore playing out the top contest of the day.
