A female accused with stalking Kate McCann allegedly deposited her a voicemail message which asked: "suppose I am Madeleine?"

Julia Wandelt, 24, who court testimony revealed has consistently claimed she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are on trial indicted with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February this year.

On Monday, Leicester Crown Court was told call records and information obtained from phones logged Ms Wandelt repeatedly demanding Madeleine's mother for a biological test during that period.

Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - at the age of three during a vacation in Portugal - is considered the most covered child disappearance cases and is still unsolved.

'I Don't Want Money'

A separate voicemail, played in court, captured Ms Wandelt declaring: "I know I'm overweight and not pretty like Madeleine had been, but I believe what I feel."

While another instance of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's recording stated: "What if there is a small chance that I'm her? What then? Isn't that significant for you?"

"I don't want money, I possess a life here in Poland, I just want to understand," she added.

The tribunal was advised that by means of emails, text messages and calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a genetic test, sent youth pictures to her phone in a effort to show a similarity to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and asserted to have "flashbacks" from a childhood with the McCanns.

An intelligence analyst, an investigator with law enforcement who collated the information, told the court there "didn't appear to be any responses" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt furthermore communicated with acquaintances of the McCanns, based on the communication logs.

On 9 October 2024, the father answered a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "incorrect contact information."

During that incident Ms Wandelt recorded a voicemail on Mrs McCann's voicemail declaring "I will persist and I intend to demonstrate my claim."

The court was informed Mrs Spragg struck up a association via internet with Ms Wandelt prior to joining her on a trip to the McCanns' residence in the county in that winter.

Communication data showed Mrs Spragg had contacted using WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to express the news outlets had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she should be considered genuine in the months preceding the appearance to the village, Leicestershire, in December 2024.

The court learned communications between the two defendants, in that autumn, planning attempting to acquire Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her bins or from silverware at a restaurant.

"We have to take action," Mrs Spragg advised Ms Wandelt.

On the occasion of the trip to their house, the defendant sent a message which said: "We are sitting adjacent to the McCanns' residence with our vehicle dark similar to private investigators. I had hoped to achieve this with another person I hadn't anticipated I would be involved in this with the McCanns."

The case ongoing.
